Monthly Program Meeting
Fifteen Elements with Carol Soderlund

Photographs by Carol Soderlund

Description: What are the properties that underlie beauty in art, nature, and quilts? Join Carol for a look at architect Christopher Alexander’s ground-breaking ideas in The Nature of Order. His theories on what defines and creates life force can be applied to everything from micro-organisms to mountain ranges and Persian carpets to office buildings. You can use them to give life and beauty to your own quilt and textile designs.

Carol Soderlund began dyeing fabric in 1988 when her vision of a quilt couldn't be realized with commercial fabrics. Since then, she has utilized dyeing and surface design techniques to create transparent, luminous, and dimensional effects of great subtlety in her award-winning quilts. For Carol, the ability to dye any color and an understanding of the interaction of colors opens the door to spontaneity and intuitive use of color. It is this joyful key to color she shares with her students.
