Monthly Program Meeting
Sustainability and Making in the Small Textile/Fiber Workshop

with Kathy Colt

Description: Join textile/fiber artist and designer Kathy Colt for an overview of sustainability, including core concepts and techniques and practices for the small textile/fiber studio. Learn about sustainable makers and be inspired to become a more resilient designer/maker in this era of resource limits!

Kathy Colt is a textile artist based in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. She has conducted an independent study of textile processes, particularly surface design on cloth, for over 20 years. While doing elective work in her final year of landscape architectural study (at UGA), Kathy was introduced to dyes, dyeing and mechanical resists, and became a dedicated student of textile arts. Since then, her interests have led to the exploration of a variety of textile print and resist processes, as well as laminated felting, for both wearable and non-wearable applications. Of the many influences that flow into Kathy's work, the surfaces, details and history of both natural and human-formed landscapes are among the most significant. Kathy increasingly seeks a fusion of these streams of influence, along with various textile techniques, to create innovative wearable and sculptural structures.
