Workshop
True Colors: Developing Your Personal Palette

Description: Dye colors that suit you and never be disappointed or confused by your dyeing results again! Carol has dyed over 80 individual color palettes, and she'll help you mix brilliant yellows, passionate purples, rich reds, astounding blues, soothing greens to create your own personal palette. You'll leave with 8-10 yards of solid- and multi-colored cotton fabric that you've dyed using Procion MX dyes and low-water-immersion techniques plus:

  • your unique personal palette of pure reds, yellows, and blues;
  • better intuitive color mixing skills;
  • an undertanding of warm and cool contrasts;
  • the ability to dye saturated, brilliant colors (no mud!);
  • the ability to create interesting, complex neutrals;
  • the ability to shade from value to value and hue to hue; and
  • an understanding of how to layer color to enrich palettes.
This is your opportunity to master color with a color master!

Carol Soderlund began dyeing fabric in 1988 when her vision of a quilt couldn't be realized with commercial fabrics. Since then, she has utilized dyeing and surface design techniques to create transparent, luminous, and dimensional effects of great subtlety in her award-winning quilts. Carol maintains an active teaching schedule throughout the United States and in Canada, teaching her color mixing techniques at ProChemical & Dye in Massachusetts and Nancy Crow’s Timber Frame Barn in Ohio and the Pacific Northwest Art School in Washington. For Carol, the ability to dye any color and an understanding of the interaction of colors opens the door to spontaneity and intuitive use of color. It is this joyful key to color she shares with her students.
