Description: Nicole will introduce us to her award-winning work which originated from her experience with chronic pain and has evolved into large-scale works that exist on the human body. Enjoy some of her new work and work in progress and learn about the process and materials she is obsessed with and what is to come in her practice. Currently the Lecturer in Textiles at Georgia State University, Nicole will also brag a little about their great Textile program.
Nicole Benner received an MFA in Textile Arts from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and a BFA in Sculpture from the University of Central Missouri. Her work examines the numerous layers of the body affected by chronic pain as it relates to spinal health through objects that exist on the body. Most recently, her work has begun to explore performance as a way to narrate her textile sculptures.
